On April 16, 2026, Governor Tina Kotek issued Executive Order 26-06 to protect and restore student instructional time in Oregon schools, taking action to prioritize academic outcomes and ensure every student has access to consistent, high-quality learning.

Reminder: Instructional Time Survey Deadline May 22
Each district and public charter school is required to complete ODE’s Instructional Time Survey by Friday, May 22, 2026. ODE designed this initial survey to capture a comprehensive picture of what instructional time looks like across the state. The survey gathers baseline data on instructional hours for 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 to support the Governor’s Executive Order and to inform permanent rulemaking on instructional time.
Webinar Recording Now Available
ODE hosted four informational webinars between May 8 and May 13 to support education partners in deepening their understanding of EO 26-06. ODE has posted a recording of the webinar, which includes information about:
- Requirements of Executive Order 26-06 and Temporary Rules
- Completing ODE’s Initial Instructional Time Survey
- Restoration Plans/Public Justification
Upcoming Office Hours
ODE will host weekly office hours throughout May and June to provide continuing support for survey completion and/or designing restoration plans. Our team will share information and updates during the first 15 minutes, and the rest of the time will be for questions and individual support. Use this link to join, and drop in any time during the hour.
