1. Informational Update: May OSSB/M Scheduled Release in Progress
Processing has begun for Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy and Multiliteracy (OSSB/M) requests submitted on or prior to 5/1/26.
- Materials for most districts should arrive within one week of submission to the printer.
- The first batch was sent to the printer on 5/5/26 and should arrive by 5/8/26.
- ODE is contacting districts with submission errors. Error correction batches will be sent to the printer as necessary through 5/8/26. Materials in error correction batches should arrive by 5/15/26.
- Please consult the OSSB_M Manual for who to contact with questions or concerns regarding OSSB/M materials.
- The next scheduled release will begin processing on the first working day after 6/1/26.

2. A&A Update Q&A: ELPA Scores
Q: In the April A&A Update, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) signaled errors with some English Language Proficient Assessment (ELPA) Summative and Alt ELPA score reports. Are those errors fixed yet?
A: Progress has been made, but not all errors are corrected.
- Information in Achievement Warehouse Extract (AWE) is 100% correct.
- Individual Student Reports (ISRs), which are generated in Secure Assessment Reports, are still missing values for some students.
- There are no incorrect scores in ODE reports, only missing scores.
- Any report that indicates an Early Proficient result is correct and will not change.
- Some reports that currently show blanks may update to show Early Proficient when the errors are completely addressed.

2. ESOL Summer Leadership Institute 2026
Join Oregon school leaders and nationally recognized experts for the EL Summer Leadership Institute 2026, an online professional learning experience offered through the College of Education at the University of Oregon. This institute provides an opportunity to deepen knowledge and strengthen leadership practice related to English Learner (EL) education.
Participants will:
- Examine the historical and legislative foundations of EL education in the United States
- Learn about the diverse backgrounds and assets of EL students
- Explore evidence-based instructional and leadership practices
- Engage with practical coaching models and strategies to support high-quality EL instruction at the school and district levels

The EL Summer Leadership Institute is funded by the U.S. Department of Education through a National Professional Development grant. Participation is free of charge. Eligible participants may receive professional development units (PDUs) and stipends.

3. Online Course: Teaching Early Literacy from a Multilingual Perspective, July 6- August 9, 2026 – Registration Now Open
Registration is now open for the Summer 2026 offering of the OSU Professional and Continuing Educators online course Teaching Early Literacy from a Multilingual Perspective. The course will run from July 6th-August 9th, with registration closing June 26.
By adopting a multilingual perspective, educators can support the development of foundational literacy skills while honoring and leveraging students’ home languages. The course features leading experts in multilingualism and early literacy, offering practical insights and strategies that can inform and strengthen classroom practice over time.
The course is especially beneficial for K-5 educators and leaders working with multilingual students and is ideal for those who wish to collaborate with colleagues in their district.
