Seeking "Bright Spots" for Social Media Campaign
Help celebrate CTE Month in Oregon by submitting stories to the #ThisIsCTE social media campaign.
To support the campaign's goal of promoting awareness of the positive impact of career and technical education on students, schools, and communities, you can submit photos, videos, and/or social media content highlighting exciting things students and teachers are doing in CTE programs across the state,
Submissions are welcome throughout the year; to be considered for February's CTE Month push, please submit items by January 24, 2025, using this submission form.

NASA's "Power to Explore" Student Essay Challenge:
Which Moon Would You Explore?
NASA invites K-12 students to plan a mission--fueled by Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS)--to any one of the hundreds of distant moons in our solar system. Students will share which moon they would choose, what they hope to discover, and what special power they possess to help achieve mission success.
- Entries will be judged in three grade-level categories: K-4, 5-8, and 9-12.
- Every student who submits an entry will receive a digital certificate and an invitation to a virtual event with NASA experts, where students will learn about what powers the NASA workforce to dream big and explore.
- Fifteen national semifinalists in each grade category will receive a NASA RPS Prize Pak.
- Three national finalists in each grade category will receive an exclusive virtual session with a NASA RPS expert.

One grand prize winner from each grade category will receive a trip for two to NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland to learn about the people and technologies that power NASA missions.
Deadline to apply is January 31, 2025.

Batelle Climate Challenge:
Students Sharing Ideas for Building a Better Future
Students in grades 9-12 are invited to research past and future impacts of climate-related hazards in their community--including drought, wildfire, flooding, and extreme heat--and develop a proposed action to help build a more resilient community.
- The grand prize winner will present at the Innovations in Climate Resilience Conference in Washington, D.C., on April 21, 2025, and receive a $5,000 STEM grant for a U.S. nonprofit organization, public library, or public school of their choice.
- The 2nd-5th place finalists will receive a $1,500 STEM grant for a U.S. nonprofit organization, public library, or public school of their choice.
Deadline to apply is February 7, 2025.

Eastern Oregon University's CCSI:
Residential Field Studies Program Along the John Day River
Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute (CCSI) is a week-long residential field studies program for high school students currently in grades 9-12. Held in Cottonwood Canyon State Park (along the John Day between Wasco and Condon), CCSI allows participants to choose from four course options where they learn about locally significant cultural or natural resources.
Projects are led by Eastern Oregon University faculty, EOU Capstone students, and other regional professionals. Students earn two early-college credits through EOU's Early College Initiatives program.
Cost to attend: $350 (scholarships are available)
Applications are accepted January 15 to May 15 (or until the program is filled).
