2024 Year in Review
As 2024 gives way to 2025, the Oregon Department of Education wishes each of you a restful and rejuvenating winter break. We are grateful for the many ways you are leading systems, teaching students, supporting curriculum, and your commitment to math education. This year, the ODE Math Team celebrates:
- Another round of Math Pathway grants distributed through STEM hubs.
- The OSAS Math Test blueprints increasingly aligned with Oregon’s K-12 Math Standards.
- The Oregon Math Leaders network and its support of local schools across the state.
- A partnership with the Oregon Council of Teachers of Math (OCTM) to offer monthly afternoon learning sessions for teachers.
We are proud of the progress made and the dedication shown by our educators and partners. Your efforts are making a significant impact on students’ lives and the future of math education in Oregon.
We look forward to continuing this great work in 2025!

OSAS Target Explorer Resource Published
Have you ever wondered how Oregon’s K-12 Math Standards connect to the OSAS summative math tests? Do you have questions about how the OSAS summative tests relate to classroom assessment practices? The OSAS Target Explorer database provides comprehensive information for every assessment target in all four claims of the OSAS Math Test. Use this resource to:
-
Enhance curriculum maps with Achievement Level Descriptors (ALDs) that describe end-of-year expectations for what students know and can do.
-
Select OSAS Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) that align with specific assessment targets, including Performance Tasks aligned with the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
-
Connect standards with assessment by exploring the alignment of domains, claims, targets, and standards, including links to ODE’s standards-specific guidance documents.

Nominations are Open for 2024-25
PAEMST Awards
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K–12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching.
Anyone—principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public—may nominate exceptional STEM teachers who are currently teaching grades 7-12 for the 2024-25 award year. Teachers may also apply directly on the PAEMST website.
The application cycle closes on February 6, 2025, and it is recommended that all nominations are submitted by January 6, 2025.
Beginning this school year, nominators can submit nominations for both the current 7th-12th grade cycle as well as for next year's K-6th grade cycle. All nominees will be notified of their nominations, and 7th-12th grade nominees will be able to begin their application immediately. Questions related to the Oregon PAEMST nomination and application can be directed to Mark Freed, ODE Math Education Specialist.
