Join the Social Science Standards Professional Learning Advisory Committee
Help Shape Oregon’s Educational Future!
The Oregon State Board of Education has adopted new Social Science Standards, set to be implemented by the 2026–27 school year. These updated standards incorporate the following:
- Ethnic studies
- Traditionally underrepresented narratives
- Holocaust and genocide education
Through funding provided by Senate Bill 1050, the Oregon Department of Education has contracted WestEd to design professional learning resources. We value your expertise in making these resources as effective as possible!
We’re Looking for K–12 Teachers, Principals, and District Leaders With the Following:
- familiarity in the content of the new 2024 Social Science Standards;
- experience teaching in the social sciences content area or experience supervising social science teachers within the last 10 years;
- experience designing and facilitating professional learning for educators focused on strengthening social sciences content knowledge and/or culturally responsive pedagogy and practices; and
- the ability to prepare for and participate in monthly one-hour virtual meetings on the following dates, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. PST/5:30 to 6:30 MST:
- October 15
- November 19
- December 17
- January 21, 2025
- February 18
- March 18
- April 15
- May 20
- June 17
Your Role
As an advisory committee member, you will review and provide input on the following:
- Digital learning modules for asynchronous educator professional learning;
- Model curricular units and lesson plans; and
- Social science standards implementation framework.
