Check out the SFSP Memo Page for a list of all memos and announcements.
As summer operations get underway, you might find that site operations need to be changed.
Remember that meals can only be claimed for sites that have been approved in CNPweb and only for the meals, meal service times, and types of sites that have been previously approved by ODE CNP.
Sponsors are encouraged to review their CNPweb Site Information Sheets and check that sites are operating as approved. If there are changes that need to be made, sponsors must make updates to CNPweb and get it approved by their assigned Child Nutrition Specialist prior to implementing the changes at the site.
When updating the Site Information Sheet, check the box next to Line 99 to certify that the information submitted is true and correct, and then hit the submit button to send your application into Pending Approval status. Applications must be in Pending Approval status for Specialists to approve. Sites in Pending Submission status cannot be approved by the Specialist.
If your Site Information Sheet has a non-congregate approval in Lines 61-66, the application will go into Error status instead of Pending Approval status. In this situation, notify your assigned Specialist that the application is ready for approval.
It is best practice to send an email to your assigned Specialist once sites are in Pending Approval or Error status. This notification will help your Specialist and help you to get your sites approved more quickly.
Due to work travel schedules and vacation times, it is always a good idea to make changes at least two weeks prior to any site operational changes. This also ensures that meal operations for open sites are updated in the Summer Site Finder Maps prior to the changes taking effect.
For all sponsors serving non-congregate meals.
When submitting SFSP claims, sponsors who are serving non-congregate meals must complete the non-congregate meal section on each SFSP Site Claim. This is in addition to the claim detail section that must be completed for all meals. Non-congregate meals must also be documented in the following boxes/lines on the Site Claim:
- 7C: Include the number of operating days the non-congregate meals were served during the claim month.
- 10: List the specific dates of non-congregate feeding.
- 11 (A-E): List the number of total eligible non-congregate meals by meal type. Only the meal types approved on the Site Information Sheet will be available.
For step-by-step instructions on submitting CNPweb claims, check out the document Submitting SFSP Reimbursement Claims with CNPweb on the CNPweb page.
ODE CNP has a limited amount of funding to reimburse Oregon SFSP sponsors for sanitation inspections completed during summer meal operations.
To be reimbursed, each inspection must show the sponsor was in compliance or that items out of compliance have been corrected. All payments will be made on a first come-first serve basis.
To submit a request for inspection funds reimbursement, submit the following documents to ode.communitynutrition@ode.oregon.gov by August 31, 2024:
- A copy of the original itemized and legible invoice
- A completed Sanitation Inspection Report for each site inspected - the inspector must write In Compliance or Complied or checked the Complied box and the date of inspection must be during summer meal operations as approved in CNPweb
- A copy of the Sanitation Inspection Reimbursement Form - this is available for download from the Packet Tab of CNPweb
If you have questions regarding the sanitation inspection reimbursements, reach out to ode.communitynutrition@ode.oregon.gov.
On July 17, 2024, The Jefferson Exchange on Jefferson Public Radio featured a story on how Oregon is working to end childhood hunger in the summer.
Listen to this interview with Child Nutrition Specialist, Cathy Brock, on how these programs operate and the impact they’re having. Sponsors are encouraged to share this story to spread the word on summer meals and Summer-EBT availability.
This summer, ODE Child Nutrition Programs is going on a Great Oregon Road Trip! During this road trip we’re highlighting summer meal sites across the state.
In June, Child Nutrition Specialist, Darcy Miller visited the Hermiston Family Aquatic Center operated by the City of Hermiston. On days there are swim lessons, over 600 people participate daily (including babies, toddlers, school aged children and adults). The SFSP meal site operates a congregate meal service Monday through Friday.
Darcy had this to say about the Hermiston Family Aquatic Center: “This site is exactly what Congress envisioned when they authorized the Summer Food Service Program in the mid 1970’s. Kids are congregated to participate in fun summer activities. They were hungry after swim lessons, and families were happy to sit in the beautiful, grassy eating area and enjoy lunch alfresco, on picnic tables in the shade of some large trees. Kudos to City of Hermiston Parks & Recreation for offering a wide variety of summer activities for kids and sponsoring the SFSP at 5 different sites this summer.”
Great work Mya, Tammy, and the City of Hermiston! Stay tuned to see where else ODE CNP pops up in July.

ODE CNP welcomes Robin Ashton to the Community Team!
Robin joins us as our newest Child Nutrition Specialist and will be working with both CACFP and SFSP sponsors.
Robin grew up in the Bay Area, just north of San Francisco. She became a Registered Dietitian after earning her degree in Nutrition from Cal Poly Pomona.
She has gained valuable experience in school food service as a cook, site supervisor and operations manager at several school districts and youth centers.
In her free time she loves baking, eating Italian food, and is always looking for more houseplants to add to her collection. During winter and spring most of her weekends are spent snowboarding at Mount Hood.
Robin is excited to be part of the ODE team and can't wait to get to know everyone!
