Elementary Science Lessons
The Going 3D with GRC is a collection of vetted, three-dimensional lessons that support Oregon Science Standards (NGSS). The lessons were developed by teachers across districts and states utilizing phenomena. The Gather, Reason, Communicate (GRC) framework is a student centered instructional approach that provides a structure to engage students in making sense of a phenomenon through the science and engineering practices. The GRC Framework may also be used within a 5-E model lesson plan to connect analogous phenomenon.
By organizing instruction around phenomenon, students figure out why or how something happens instead of learning disconnected facts. The elementary links below provide examples of how to utilize phenomena driven instruction in a lesson that could be organized by grade level.

Addressing Climate Emotions in Schools
The impacts of climate change are significantly influencing the lives, homes, and health of young people, even if they don't always vocalize it. Their worries about climate change inevitably influence their school experiences. How can educators help young individuals deal with these complex emotions?
Below are some resources for addressing climate-related emotions within educational spaces:

OSAS and Local Performance Assessment Updates
OSAS Science Test Window Closing for Spring 2024
The Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) Science test window will close on June 14. Please ensure that students complete the science assessments before the window closes this Spring.
Practice Brief: Local Performance Assessments Information
Performance-based assessments are a vital component of a district’s balanced assessment system. OAR 581-022-0615 requires public school districts and charter schools to administer Local Performance Assessments (LPAs) in grades 3-8 and once in high school in the content areas of writing, speaking, mathematical problem solving, and scientific inquiry. This two-page Practice Brief is designed to help educators and leaders take a student-centered approach to meeting the requirements of the policy by understanding the benefits of performance-based assessments, how to use district-adopted instructional materials as a source of LPAs, and how to use a single task across multiple content areas.
Please contact Dr. Mariela Salas Bao, Science Assessment Specialist, with questions or support needs.
