Arts Access Toolkit Highlight: Communicating the Benefits of Arts Education

It’s almost summer and time for celebrations, performances, art shows and opportunities for students to showcase their arts learning! This time of year is a beautiful opportunity to highlight the story of your arts programs and demonstrate the value they hold for your students and your community. ODE’s Arts Access Toolkit Resource, Communicating the Benefits of Arts Education, may come in handy in conversations about the benefits of arts education.

We will be taking a break from Arts Ed Connections next month. Congratulations on another creative year, and please take time to ground in your own creativity and rest this summer - you deserve it, arts educators! Thank you for your invaluable work!

National Association for Media Arts Ed OPEN CALL for MEDIA ARTS TEACHERS!

The National Association for Media Arts Education (NAMAE) is seeking media arts teachers and teaching artists to lead in developing curriculum and instruction through the lens of culturally responsive teaching and student-centered instruction.

A cohort of 7 PK-12 media arts teachers and teaching artists will be selected from diverse backgrounds and settings (e.g. classroom and after-school programs, media arts forms, demographics, rural-urban, location, grade level, etc.).

Selected educators will choose a standards-based lesson from their own practice to revise and pilot, using guidance created by the panel of experts.

Participants will be asked to:

  • attend approx. 4 hours of meetings for orientation, bias training, lesson refinement, and reflection
  • revise a personal lesson plan based on guidance for culturally responsive teaching
  • pilot the revised lesson in their classroom in Fall of 2024
  • provide the National Coalition for Arts Standards (NCAS) with the final revised lesson plan and reflection

Total time commitment is estimated at 8-9 hours. The selected educators will be paid an honorarium of $600 for their work.
