Sutherlin High School Woodshop Program Receives Award at OSTC Conference

Exceptional Program Award - Sutherlin Woodshop Program

The Sutherlin High School Woodshop Program was recognized with an "Exceptional Program Award" at the Oregon Statewide Transition Conference (OSTC) in March 2024. The program was commended as exemplifying the best philosophy of education as relates to successful transition from school to competitive integrated employment.

The Sutherlin Woodshop Program--run by Josh Gary and Allen Singleton--is open to any student with interest in woodshop, without regard to abilities or barriers. The Sutherlin team works with all teachers, especially those in special education, to encourage students to learn new skills, gain confidence, and complete projects ranging from beautiful art to useful products. Through the program, students receive help in acquiring pre-employment skills and locating community businesses for job placement after high school.
