These funds have been made possible by the recent passage of HB 4082, legislation that was signed into law just a few days ago. HB 4082 represents a significant commitment to enhancing educational opportunities during the summer months, ensuring our students have access to rich learning experiences outside of the traditional school year. For additional context, please see the 2024 Summer Learning Update from ODE Director, Dr. Charlene Williams.

Background
-
Summer Learning Grant funds are allocated through a three-step process:
-
First, school districts and charter schools are assigned a priority ranking based on their combined percentages of focal student groups outlined in ORS 327.180 and OAR 581-014-0001.
-
Second, the maximum grant amount is calculated for each district, charter school and ESD.
-
Third, grant funds are allocated in order of priority ranking until funds are exhausted.
-
Entities that are allocatedfunds are considered eligible to apply for a Summer Learning Grant and will be given the opportunity to submit an application. All other entities are on a waitlist and may receive an allocation if those eligible to apply decline their allocation or do not meet the program requirements to receive a grant.
Next Steps/Allocation Process
- Entities determined to be eligible to apply will receive an official notice from ODE with more information by the end of March.
- Entities will be given the option to accept the funds and complete an application or decline the funds; must respond quickly.
- Entities that are on the waitlist will be notified if funds become available to fulfill their allocation (anticipated to begin mid-April).
Action Needed
- Review the allocations chart to determine if your entity is eligible to apply or on the waitlist and prepare accordingly.
