The Oregon Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs (ODE CNP) is releasing our updated annual Civil Rights Training. This online-only training has been updated to include the requirement to have a statement of accommodation for free language assistance and meal accommodations on the sponsor’s website per the Child Nutrition Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity Public Notification Policy.
Both the Civil Rights Training and the Racial and Ethnic Data Collection Training are required for all CACFP and SFSP Food Program Coordinators. The two trainings are part of the Annual Training requirements for both the CACFP and SFSP. Food Program Coordinators who operate both the CACFP and SFSP are only required to view the trainings and complete the required quiz and verification statement once to satisfy the requirement for both programs.
By March 31, 2024, the Food Program Coordinator for the CACFP and/or the SFSP must complete the following:
- View the trainings:
a) Civil Rights in the Child Nutrition Programs, Jan 2024 Version (31:19)
b) Racial and Ethnic Data Collection (10:53)
2. Complete the short quiz and verification statement:
a) Civil Rights Annual Training Quiz 2024
An e-mail receipt with your total score will be sent after the completion of the quiz. Save this e-mail as verification that the required training as been completed. This does not need to be submitted to ODE CNP unless requested.
Sponsors with a score less than 6 out of 8 will be encouraged to re-take the trainings and the quiz. All Food Program Coordinators are responsible for understanding the information provided in the trainings and for ensuring Program requirements are met. Relevant information within these trainings must be shared in annual civil rights trainings to sponsor staff who works with Child Nutrition Programs.
This is only one part of the required annual trainings for both CACFP and SFSP. Additional training requirements will be sent out via program memos and newsletters at later dates.
While only the Food Program Coordinator is required to take the training, the Authorized Representative, and other Responsible Principals of the CACFP and SFSP are also encouraged to take the trainings.
Sponsors who fail to complete all training requirements may be determined to be seriously deficient and may result in the denial of their program renewal application.
If you have questions about this training, reach out to your assigned Child Nutrition Specialist.
