Oregon CTE

New Training About What Qualifies as a State Approved Fine & Performing Arts CTE Pathway from the Oregon Department of Education

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is excited to announce an upcoming training to support guidance about what qualifies as a state approved CTE Fine & Performing Arts program of study for all regions across the state. The Fine & Performing Arts CTE Programs of Study Training is designed to increase equitable access for all students in Oregon to Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs of Study in the career fields of fine & performing arts, by assisting educators and administrators in expanding and building CTE Programs of Study that meet State and Perkins Federal requirements, and differentiating between secondary arts programs and CTE Programs of Study in Fine & Performing Arts.

ODE is inviting administrators, regional coordinators and educators interested in expanding and building CTE arts education pathways to join us on January 25th, from 4-5 PM PST, to learn more!

Webinars will be held virtually via Zoom and include live captioning; please complete the Zoom registration indicating that translation is requested at least one week prior to the event to request ASL services.

Maryhill Museum of Art: 2024 Teachers as Artists Exhibition

Visual art educators who are members of the Oregon Art Education Association or Washington Art Education Association are invited to submit artwork for consideration in the Washington & Oregon Art Education Association exhibition, THE WAY I SEE IT, on view at Maryhill Museum of Art from March 15, 2024 – April 17, 2024!

NEA Foundation Student Success Grants

The NEA Foundation wants to support educators engaging students in project-based and deeper learning to support the development of skills and dispositions contributing to success and fulfillment in a changing world.

Grants up to $5,000 are available. Grants fund activities for 12 months from the date of the award. Applicants must be teachers, education support professionals, or specialized instructional support personnel, and must be current members of the National Education Association.

Apply now using NEA’S grant application guidance. Applications due February 1st, 2024.


McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation Academic Enrichment Grants

The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation offers Academic Enrichment Grants designed to develop in-class and extra-curricular programs that improve student learning. The Foundation considers proposals that foster understanding, deepen students’ knowledge, and provide opportunities to expand awareness of the world around them.

The Academic Enrichment Grants provide funding for programs that nurture the intellectual, artistic and creative abilities of children from low-income households. The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation awards grants to individuals in amounts up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of $20,000 over two years, provided the eligibility requirements continue to be met.

Apply early! The application system closes after 200 submissions.

Submissions accepted January 15th, 2024 - April 15th, 2024. See site for details.

Poetry Out Loud 2023 State Champion, Kari Morgan

Poetry Out Loud Competition

​​Poetry Out Loud is a contest open to all Oregon high school students. It is a free program that encourages young performers to dive into American poetry through memorization and competitive performance.

Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation in partnership with the Oregon Arts Commission and other state arts agencies. ​

Lesson plans are available online. In years with in-person contests, travel assistance to events may be available.

Artist, Arts Organization and Partner Opportunities


Oregon Community Foundation Creative Heights Grants

The Creative Heights initiative aims to increase Oregon’s cultural visibility and vitality while supporting unique opportunities for Oregonians to experience innovative arts and culture. Up to $1 million in projects will be funded annually with grants from $10,000 to $100,000 per project.

Creative Heights grants are for the creation and/or presentation of new and innovative performances, exhibitions, programs, and other works of art and culture. OCF is interested in reviewing proposals for a range of funding levels and timelines to best serve the specific needs of proposed projects. Project funding may be spent over a period of two years and can support any artistic or cultural expression, including visual, dance, folk & traditional arts, film/video/media, literary arts, museum exhibitions, music, theatre & performance arts, history & heritage, and multidisciplinary or emerging fields.

Letters of Inquiry (LOI) must be submitted online by 5:00pm (PST) on February 16, 2024 (Friday).

Oregon Arts Commission Career Opportunity Grants

The Career Opportunity Grants program is designed especially to support opportunities that: 

  • An artist has been invited to, selected for or otherwise reviewed by peers or industry to receive; and 
  • Are particularly timely or have some sense of urgency for the applicant to take advantage of the opportunity now. 

Artists from the following disciplines may apply: Literature (creative non-fiction, fiction, play writing, poetry); Dance (including choreography); Music (composition, performance); Theatre and Performance Art; Visual Arts (crafts, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, new media); Design Arts; and Media Arts. Folk & Traditional artists whose practice falls in one of the identified disciplines are welcome to apply. If your project falls outside one of the listed disciplines, please contact the program coordinator to discuss.

Artists from underserved communities, including (but not limited to) rural communities and communities of color, are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications due by Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 5:00 pm, for activities taking place between May 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025
