Subject: Register For April 18 Update On How OHA Responded to COVID-19 in Oregon Schools

Dear Colleagues,

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with the Oregon Health Authority to share information about a recently released report prepared by an independent third-party studying Oregon’s public health system response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the second of two reports prepared by the Rede Group, and includes a focus on the public health response in schools. You can review the report and its appendices here. To access just the executive summary, please click here.

You are welcome to join us on Tuesday, April 18 at 4:00 p.m. when Rede Group will present an overview of findings from information gathered for Report 2 and also be available to answer questions. Register in advance for this meeting here.

If you need accommodations for the meeting, please contact Haedon Brunelle (haedon.brunelle@ode.oregon.gov) at least 48 hours in advance of the Tuesday, April 18, 4:00 p.m. meeting. We look forward to meeting with you and receiving your feedback.

Background

The Oregon Legislature passed Senate Bill 1554 during the 2022 short session. That bill requires an independent, third-party study of Oregon’s public health system response to the COVID-19 pandemic. OHA contracted with the Rede Group to conduct the study, the results of which will be shared over the course of three reports delivered to the Legislature in November 2022, April 2023, and September 2023.

The report outlines some of the things the system did well and should be celebrated as well as areas we can learn from as we prepare for future emergencies. Please keep in mind that this is a study of the systems’ response and is not a commentary or evaluation of any individual’s work, effort, or commitment. As always, I am grateful for your work on behalf of students and families across Oregon.

Thank you,

Kati Moseley
