Oregon Student Aid

FAFSA/ORSAA is Now Open

The first step for students to gain access to financial aid is by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA). The FAFSA/ORSAA is used to determine eligibility for financial aid opportunities including Oregon financial aid programs like the Oregon Opportunity Grant, the Oregon Promise Grant, and many need-based OSAC scholarships. Many colleges and universities also use the FAFSA or ORSAA to determine eligibility for financial aid opportunities. The 2023-24 FAFSA and ORSAA and Oregon Promise Grant are now open.

Resources for School Mental Health Providers and School Personnel

The Southeast MHTTC School Mental Health Initiative is collaborating with the Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity to support school mental health providers as they increase their skills as affirming providers to better support LGBTQ+ students. They have worked together to create the Toolbox for Affirmatively Supporting Youth, which includes webinars and resources such as the informational Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression (SOGIE) recording and glossary of commonly used terminology in LGBTQ+ communities.

Care and Connect

Care & Connection Campaign

Last year, we were excited to see that more than half of Oregon’s school districts kicked off the school year with Care & Connection. Many of you continued to devote time to cultivating healthy relationships and communities throughout the school year. ODE has designed a number of resources and tools to help school personnel facilitate continued care and connection this school year with students and each other.

Resources

Parent and Educator Resource Guide to Section 504 in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools

This resource summarizes key requirements of Section 504, and aims to increase understanding of these requirements for both parents and members of the school community. This guide provides answers to questions that the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has received on Federal civil rights laws, which protects students with disabilities in public schools, and in particular, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504).

Ensuring Student Focal Group Safety and Privacy Resource

This resource guide is intended to offer safety and privacy recommendations and resources for those engaging with students and families in the school community. When planning for engagement, it is important to understand which communities may be particularly at risk of experiencing harm as a result of participating in community engagement efforts. This resource aims to help plan for community engagement activities that reduce the potential for students, families and community members to experience harm, danger, or breaches of trust. It also provides recommendations for how to address harm when it occurs within your community,  tend to impact, and restore trust. Community engagement is at the heart of supporting focal student groups and centering their voices, families, and communities in the design, implementation and use of resources.
