Salmon Release

In hopes to offset the decline of salmon, Coquille Tribal members in partnership with Oregon's Department of Fishing and Wildlife (ODFW) along with STEP Volunteers released 1,000 juvenile Chinook Salmon from an acclimation box into Lampa Creek. The Tribe started their partnership with the state to release salmon in the area back in 2021 after they learned these salmon were nearing extinction. The efforts from the Coquille tribe in partnership with ODFW anticipate these released smolt will head downstream and eventually mature into adults and reproduce in the Coquille river system increasing the Chinook Salmon numbers for generations to come.
