June 2, 2022,
Hello and welcome to the first LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Newsletter. While we have spent months feeling the impacts of recent affirming-education restrictions, and gender-affirming care instability nationwide, ODE Director Colt Gill reminds us that Oregon is committed to honoring and protecting LGBTQ2SIA+ children and young people–and that is something to be proud of. This commitment thrives through ODE’s cross-agency supports such as the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Grant Program; LGBTQ2SIA+ inclusive Health and Sexuality education standards and Ethnic Studies Social Science standards; provision of free menstrual products in student bathrooms of every gender; civil rights supports; bias incident response; bullying response; non-binary data collection; and Supporting Transgender Students guidance.
We hope you will take time this month to celebrate the LGBTQ2SIA+ students in your lives and honor the history and beauty of Pride month as we work together to support accountable, equitable, and visible LGBTQ2SIA+ affirming school communities for years to come:
In this newsletter, we will share with you some announcements, research, resources, and opportunities for training by ODE, statewide, and national colleagues that may be of interest to you in order to support LGBTQ2SIA+ affirming school communities.
