To: Superintendents and Business Managers From: Michael Elliott, School Facilities Program Manager, Oregon Department of Education Date: May 4, 2022 Re: Education Staff Retention and Recruitment Grants - Adjusted Timeline
Dear School District Leaders,
Thank you for your patience as we work to develop and distribute the application for the Education Staff Retention and Recruitment Grants. As you know HB 4030 allocates a significant investment of state funds in addressing retention and recruitment problems facing districts, charter schools, and ESDs across the state. HB 4030 funds are intended to increase and supplement pre-existing work to address both long term and short term needs, while providing maximum flexibility to districts. It is also critical for districts to connect and collaborate with personnel that are most affected by the retention and recruitment problems being faced at the local level.
The application for the HB 4030 funds is the first step to identifying the problem of practice and strategizing with district personnel about solutions and steps to take to address the problem. The application will ask local education agencies to carefully think about their local problems of practice and how they can use these funds as part of the solution. To support this work, guidance will be provided along with the application.
To ensure that the application and guidance are clear and help facilitate the work needed to successfully meet the goals of HB 4030, we have adjusted the tentative timeline. The application and guidance will be ready for publication and distribution by Friday, May 6 and the application closing date is being extended to May 31, 2022.
We will continue to make every effort to stay within the tentative timeline moving forward. We are committed to ensuring that districts are well supported and have funds as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience and partnership.
