SIA Update

We would like to thank everyone who joined the conversation during this week’s progress report office hour session. We appreciate the great questions and look forward to further conversation. As a reminder, we will have another office hour session on Monday, January 25th at 10am. You can still register to take part in Monday’s office hours, even if you took part in this week’s office hours and have additional questions. Following next week’s office hours opportunity we will release new FAQs with questions and answers from the two sessions. This will be posted to our SIA website and sent via a future weekly message.

In addition to the office hours there are some upcoming presentations that may be of interest:

  • Oregon Association of Central office Administrators (OACOA) - 1/27 at 9am, opportunity for an SIA update
  • Oregon Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) – 1/29 at 12pm, opportunity for business managers to ask questions about the first progress report
  • Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA) – 1/29 at 9:30 am, A Key Note Follow-Up: A Continued Conversation with Karen Mapp and Lessons Learned from Community Engagement in the Student Investment Account

Coming soon

As you may have seen in the Supporting Quality Implementation guidance, later this month ODE will be releasing additional information and resources:

  1. Community Engagement Resource: This new resource will share learning from the first year’s engagement efforts and identify short and long-term strategies for strengthening community ties through and beyond COVID-19 and even when engagement cannot be completed in-person.
  2. Preliminary Allocation Estimates for 2021-23: ODE will release preliminary allocations based on the Governor’s Recommended Budget for the 2021-23 biennium, but it’s important to be clear that these preliminary allocations will change. The final SIA allocation estimates for each district and eligible charter school will be released in May 2021 in alignment with the May ADM collection and following any adjustments during the upcoming legislative session.
  3. Budget Template for 2021-23: The required budget template with the preliminary allocations will be released to support preparation of your SIA adjustment or amendment for the 2021-23 biennium.

This Week’s Frequently Asked Question

Q: As a District, how should I be reporting budget and expenditure information for any charter(s) that applied as part of our district’s application?

A: There are two options for reporting on your charter school(s) budget and expenditures for the first reporting period:

Option 1) If your charter is embedded within your SIA Plan, then you can list each charter activity as a line item in your district budget with a clear indication that the money will be going to the charter for implementation (ex: CHARTER NAME: hire a mental health counselor).

Option 2) If your charter has a completely separate SIA plan, then they will have a link to a separate Reporting Dashboard (that is linked at the bottom of your District Dashboard). You can send your charter the link for them to report directly or you can gather the information from them and fill in the Dashboard yourself. Please remember to save often!
