SIA Update

Last week the ODE SIA team shared that under Section 11 of HB 3427, we have the opportunity to adjust the requirements for SIA plan updates within what is outlined in statute. We are still finalizing the exact application requirements and submission process, but we are pleased to share that applicants will be able to continue implementing their current three year SIA plan or develop a new SIA plan, as needed. While we are making this shift, we aim to create a process that is aligned with the spirit of the SIA, while also attending to the impact of this school year on applicants.

Applicants can begin to prepare for the next SIA application submission by:

  • Continuing ongoing authentic community engagement: Applicants will be required to continue engaging with their community, with specific attention to their focal group students and families.
  • Applying an equity lens: Applicants will be required to apply an equity lens when considering input from the focal student groups and community as well as when making any adjustments for the next two years of their SIA plan.
  • Gathering additional budget information: Applicants will be required to detail the expenditures for the planned activities in year two and three of their SIA plan, given applicants were only required to submit a budget for year one of the SIA plan in the last application cycle.

We anticipate sharing further guidance and templates for the next application cycle, including a community engagement toolkit focused on engaging students, families, and communities in virtual ways in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you have questions, please reach out to SIAinfo@state.or.us.
