Wireless Hotspot Plans

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) has partnered with the Oregon Department of Administrative Services, Oregon Department of Justice, and Verizon Wireless to provide a statewide contract for school districts and education service districts for acquiring wireless hotspot plans for their students and education programs. This contract will provide for a $15 per month 4G unlimited wireless plan that enables students to gain access for distance learning. There will also be additional equipment offerings available for all authorized users.

Under the terms of the agreement, ODE must assure the use of at least 5,000 plans. The plan will be available up to June 30, 2021 at the price of $15 per month so long as the 5,000 plan minimum is met. If the number of plans falls below this amount, ODE will either be responsible for acquiring the necessary plans to achieve the minimum, or all plans will default back to their normal $40 per month. Based on our survey of district needs, there is a demand well above the minimum threshold.

This contract is currently in its final review by Verizon. We know that many of you have been holding off on acquiring these services with the hope this contract will be available for use. Please know we are doing everything in our power to expedite this process and anticipate an announcement of the contract availability early next week.  We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work to fast track this process.

If you have specific questions related to this contract or the services it will provide, please contact Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Information Technology, Rick Crager
