SIA Update
Over the past few weeks, our Application Managers have reached out to applicants whose SIA applications have been reviewed to date. If you’re an applicant who hasn’t received an update, it doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong - it simply means your application is either still in the review process or is considered a partially complete application and hasn’t moved into the review process yet. Moving forward, our Application Managers will reach out on an ongoing basis as reviews continue to be completed by ODE Reviewers.
In the meantime, we’d like to share that while no definitive decisions have been made yet, the Governor has provided guidance that ODE delay funding for the SIA and other programs until August 1, 2020. As a result, we will not make any funding commitment, including processing grant agreements for the SIA until after that point. ODE anticipates this delay will provide time for the Legislature to convene to make funding decisions on how and if the SIA moves forward; however, one potential scenario we’re currently tracking would provide SIA funds to applicants at a 37% reduction, based on the May economic forecast. We share this to help with your budget planning while needing to be clear that a full-range of directions might come forward via the Governor and the Legislature meeting in a future session focused on the budget.
We certainly recognize this presents some risks to you - and as we’ve shared over the past few months, our team is walking alongside you in responding to the current economic uncertainty and navigating many unknowns. We’ll continue to not only share information as soon as we are able, but work to support you in increasing capacity to sustain and deepen student, family, and community engagement with equity-centered practices.
Q: I was not able to attend last Thursday’s optional “Sharing, Insights, and Development of Growth Targets and an SIA Evaluation Approach” workshop, but am interested in learning more about it. Is there any way I can access the materials shared during the workshop?
A: Yes, you can! We’ve added a recording of the workshop and will be adding the workshop slide deck to the SIA Longitudinal Performance Growth Targets webpage. This page also includes other growth target resources, including webinars from earlier this year.
If you were able to attend the workshop on Thursday and would like to provide feedback to inform future workshops, please fill out this brief form!
