Science Engagement Opportunities

The Oregon Department of Education’s Science Team is seeking applications from teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, and other experienced education professionals for the 2019-2021 Science Advisory Panel and the Science Local Performance Assessment Committee. We are especially interested in recruiting members from historically underrepresented communities and those with a deep commitment to equity and excellence for every learner.

ODE Science Advisory Panel

Response Requested by Monday, October 7th

The Oregon Department of Education is seeking applications from teachers, curriculum specialists, and other experienced education professionals for the 2019-2021 Science Advisory Panel*. The input and voice from this team will serve as strategic thought partners with the Department to advise, assist, support and advocate for matters that will provide equitable educational access and opportunities for all students in Oregon.

If you are interested in serving on the 2019 – 2021 Science Advisory Panel, please complete this application no later than Monday, October 7th.

*The first in-person 2019 meeting is Wednesday, October 23rd in Salem, OR, and up to 3 additional on-line meetings during the 2019-2020 school year. ODE will be able to cover the cost for a substitute teacher, mileage and parking, lunch, and a hotel if you’re traveling 70 miles or more (one-way) to the meeting in Salem.


ODE Science Local Performance Assessment Committee

Response Requested by Thursday, October 10th

The Oregon Department of Education is recruiting qualified educators to assist in the development of Local Performance Assessment resources. This team will help develop and make recommendations for revisions to supporting resources such as performance tasks and performance task review tools to align with the 2014 Oregon Science Standards (NGSS). Applicants may be asked to field test selected tasks with the newly developed scoring guide, and assist in creating scoring guidelines and justifications. Committee members will be compensated for their time or receive substitute reimbursement as applicable. All in-person meetings will occur in Salem with the possibility of some remote work.

In-person project meeting dates will occur on:

- November 6-7, 2019

- December 4-5, 2019

- January 22-23, 2020
