Summer Learning Opportunities

As the school year comes to an end, I wanted to share some learning opportunities occurring our state.  Please visit the websites below to learn more about each of these conferences, and contact the organizer directly with any questions about the event.

OSU's Ambitious Math and Science Summer Institute

Oregon State University - June 18th -21st, 2019

This year the theme is building teacher and student agency and ownership for ambitious math and science teaching and learning.

Who:  Middle and high school math and science teachers, teacher leaders, and STEM education administrators supporting STEM educators.

When: June 18 to June 21, 2019 (start at noon on 6/18 - 3pm on 6/21)

Where:  Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon

Earn: Continuing Education units provided and OSU SED808, section 400, CRN 74239, 2 credits available. You can register for OSU credits starting on April 14, 2019.

Oregon Math Leaders (OML) Conference

McMinnville, OR - August 2-3, 2019

Join more than a hundred other Oregon math educators who are passionate about teaching mathematics at the Oregon Math Leaders conference at Linfield College in McMinnville.

Who:  Math teachers, teacher leaders, and education administrators supporting math and STEM educators.

COSA 2019 Summer Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Team Institute

Eugene, OR - August 7–9, 2019

Plan to join colleagues from around the state at this year’s 2019 Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Team Institute , August 7-9, 2019 in Eugene.  Plan to engage in a variety of professional learning formats, including mini session, small-group discussions, team workshops, and innovative practice learnings. 

This event is the perfect opportunity to assemble your team and begin the learning and planning process in anticipation of the 2019-21 biennium.   Attendees will have an opportunity to hear the latest updates following the legislative session, as well as engage in dozens of provocative topics presented by colleagues from around our state.  Don’t miss out on one of COSA’s most important anchor conferences in partnership with the Oregon Department of Education.

AP Institute of the Cascades

Bend, OR - August 5-10, 2019

The High Desert Education Service District and Oregon State University - Cascades are proud to offer Oregon’s only Advanced Placement Institute. Whether you are seeking to begin teaching AP courses or you are already teaching and want to expand your skills.

Who:  Whether you are seeking to begin teaching AP courses or are already teaching and want to expand your skills, we offer a unique summer learning experience that includes more than 30 hours of subject-specific professional development for teachers looking to expand into AP courses.

When: August 5 to August 10, 2019

PSU's Deepening Understanding of Mathematics Teaching and Learning Series

Make your arrangements now! Registration is available for three more weeks for this summer's courses designed for K-12 teachers and teacher leaders in mathematics. The courses are:

CI 511 Examining Base Ten Numeration and Operations

CI 510 Reasoning and Proving Across Mathematics

CI 516 Exploring Measurement Concepts

Each class is a weeklong intensive course, meeting from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Note: these courses will not be held on campus, rather they are held in partner districts and education agencies. See flyer for details.

These courses are part of the Deepening Understanding of Mathematics Teaching and Learning Series at Portland State University; they can be used for the Mathematics Instructional Leader Specialization from TSPC or a certificate of completion from PSU. Click here for program application information and scholarship options
