Private Investigator Fee Changes Effective September 1, 2026

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) is providing notice of upcoming fee changes for Oregon’s Private Investigator Program.

Following review and approval by the Private Security/Investigator Policy Committee, the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training, and the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), the approved fee increases will take effect September 1, 2026.

These adjustments are necessary to support the ongoing administration and regulatory responsibilities of the Private Investigator Program. Program fees fund the services required to process applications and licensure, conduct compliance and regulatory activities, provide constituent support, and maintain the infrastructure and business operations necessary to administer the program effectively.

Beginning September 1, 2026, applications and transactions submitted to DPSST will be subject to the new fee schedule. Applications and transactions submitted prior to the effective date will be assessed under the fee schedule in effect at the time of submission, as applicable.

We recognize that fee increases directly impact private investigators throughout Oregon. DPSST has worked through the public rulemaking and approval process to ensure the fees appropriately support the program’s operational needs and its responsibility to provide timely, effective regulatory services.
