September 25, 2025 | Update on CID and RTA Timelines

This note informs you of important changes regarding processing times for Certified Instructor Demonstrations (CIDs) and Remote Training Authorizations (RTAs).

Beginning on October 1, 2025, CIDs and RTAs will be processed on the 15th of each month. CIDs and RTAs received after the 15th of the month will be processed on the 15th of the following month.

Example:

Jamie’s CID was received by the L&D Specialist on 07/12/2026. Jamie can anticipate their CID to be reviewed and processed on 07/15/2026.

Terry’s CID was received by the L&D Specialist on 07/18/2026. Terry can anticipate their CID to be reviewed and processed on 08/15/2026.

What if the 15th falls on a weekend?

If the 15th falls on a non-business day (weekend or holiday), CIDs and RTAs will be processed within 1-2 business days of the 15th.

How is this different?

Requirements for unarmed instructor renewal, CIDs, and RTAs remain the same. In previous practice, CIDs and RTAs were reviewed throughout the month as time allowed. This process formalizes review dates. You’ll benefit from knowing when to expect your CID or RTA to be completed.

What does this mean for you?

As with the previous processes, be aware of when your instructor certification expires and plan to submit your CID ahead of the three-year requirement. Submitting CIDs and/or RTAs two months in advance will provide enough time for your CID and/or RTA to be processed and provide a buffer if any deficiencies need to be addressed.

Renewal applications may still be received by the Department up to 180 days prior to the expiration date of the certification.

RTAs continue to expire in tandem with the Unarmed Instructor Certification.
