UPCOMING DPSST FIRE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCEMENT

NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter – Revised to NFPA 1010 Standard on Professional Qualifications for Firefighters

Task Forces play a vital role in determining the importance, relevance, and affect an updated National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standard has on the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training’s (DPSST) training and certification standards for the Oregon fire service. They are also the initial step in the process of updating Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) to reflect the latest NFPA updates. NFPA has published the 2024 Edition of the 1010 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Firefighters, prompting the need for one of these important Task Forces. Please note that in its consolidation efforts the NFPA 1010 Standard will now include the following: NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter, NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator, NFPA 1003 Airport Fire Fighter and NFPA 1005 Marine Fire Fighting for Land Based Fire Fighters. In order to give each of these certifications the attention and discussion they deserve we will be holding separate task forces for each level.

Fire Certification staff will host an NFPA Firefighter Task Force located at DPSST. The date for this upcoming Task Force will either be September 12, 17, October 1, or 8 from 0900 to 1600 depending on which date works best for the majority of the group. During the Task Force, we will discuss the impact any changes will have on the entirety of the Oregon fire service, review updates to forms, as well as discuss ideas for an updated guide to certification.

To be considered, please email Brooke Bell-Uribe at brooke.bell-uribe@dpsst.oregon.gov no later than August 15th at 1700 if you are interested in participating. In your email please include the following:

  • Name
  • Contact information (please including phone, email, and mailing address)
  • Fire Department Name
  • NFPA 1001 Certifications or qualifications you hold
  • Brief statement on why you would like to participate
  • Which dates are best for you between September 12, 17, October 1, or 8 (we will choose one date but please let us know all dates you are available)

Our goal is to have good representation from various areas in Oregon as well as career, volunteer, and combination department personnel.

On behalf of DPSST, we thank you for your time and assistance on this important Task Force. If you have any questions, contact Brooke Bell-Uribe at brooke.bell-uribe@dpsst.oregon.gov or 503-569-8260.
