Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS)

This class is supported by funding from the Oregon Office of Rural Health Elder Service Innovation Grant.
GEMS Core Provider Course: 8-hour classroom course for EMTs, Paramedics, emergency responders, nurses, physician assistants and physicians. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion, a wallet card recognizing them as GEMS core providers for 4 years, and 8 hours of CAPCE credit. GEMS is recognized by the NREMT and qualifies for Oregon and NREMT CE credit.
This is the revised 2nd edition course. GEMS provides EMS practitioners at all levels with the skills and knowledge to address the unique medical, social, environmental and communications challenges of older adults. Developed by NAEMT, in partnership with the American Geriatrics Society, GEMS empowers EMS practitioners to help improve medical outcomes and quality of life for geriatric patients. This 2nd Edition builds off the previous edition and includes expanded content that will cover new areas addressed in the National EMS Education Standards, including mobile integrated healthcare and disasters. The GEMS course is an innovative, comprehensive, and highly interactive 1-day course for both BLS and ALS providers with case-based lectures, live action video, hands-on skill stations & small group scenarios.

GEMS TEXTBOOK
The NAEMT requires participants to have the current 2nd edition GEMS Provider textbook. The grant fund covers the book!
REGISTRATION Tuition is $50. Registration deadline April 12th. Go to medproed.com/course-registration to register. Then go to the payments page, scroll down to the “Special Session” option.
