Class Title: Handgun Instructor Development Course

Sponsoring Agency:  DPSST

Target Audience: Law enforcement.  Preference will be given to agencies located in: Lane, Douglas, Coos and Benton Counties

When:  Monday, March 13th through Thursday, March 16th, 2023

Hours: 0730-1730

Where:  Eugene, Oregon. The specific classroom and range locations will be provided to attendees after their registrations are confirmed.

Cost: Free

Pre-requisites: Attendees will be given one opportunity to pass a cold handgun qualification, a passing score of 80% is required to continue with the training. Participants who do not pass with a score of 80% or higher will be sent home and asked to enroll in an IDC offered in the future.

Overview:  This class is designed to create competent handgun instructors using a building block approach to skill development and learning.  IDC students will be exposed to current methods of adult learning theory, international best practices in the areas of outcome driven techniques and diagnosing the root causes behind problem shooters.  There will be a live teaching component to the class, where instructor candidates will have the opportunity to run live fire training. There will also be a TacMed component and drills.

Attire:  Comfortable range clothing to include eye protection, hearing protection and a brimmed hat.  The class will be held on an outdoor range. 

Supplies/Equipment Needed:  A reliable department authorized handgun used on duty chambered in either 9mm, .40cal, or 45acp, 1500 rounds of practice ammunition, current duty use holster, belt, magazine carriers with a minimum of 3 magazines, ballistic vest, brimmed hat, eye protection, hearing protection, flashlight(s) and IFAK with tourniquet.  Knee & elbow pads are optional, knee pads recommended.  Pen and note taking material.  Agencies having difficulties supplying their student’s ammunition can contact Jim de Sully:  jim.desully@dpsst.oregon.gov

Deadline to Register: All training applications must be received by 1700 hours on March 6, 2023.  Apply now if you are interested. Registration may close early if a significant number of applications are received.  If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail from DPSST do not plan on attending.
