Senate Bill 116 Rule (Private Security Equipment, Vehicles, Uniforms and Titles)

Senate Bill 116 Rule (Private Security Equipment, Vehicles, Uniforms and Titles)

DPSST adopted a permanent rule for Senate Bill 116 relating to the use of private security equipment, vehicles, uniforms and titles. Senate Bill 116 makes it unlawful for a private security provider or a private security business to use equipment, vehicles, uniforms or titles that imply that the provider or business is affiliated with law enforcement. The rule takes effect on June 1, 2022.

The rule identifies prohibited private security equipment, vehicles, uniforms and titles. To help mitigate the financial impact for providers and businesses that need to make changes, there is a phase-in period. Private security providers and businesses operating prior to the June 1, 2022 effective date of the rule will have until July 1, 2023 to complete any changes needed to comply with the rule. The Permanent Administrative Order is available for review here and on the department’s website at https://www.oregon.gov/dpsst/Pages/Rules.aspx.
