Class Title:  Handgun Instructor Development Course

Sponsoring Agency:  Central Point Police Department and DPSST

Target Audience:  Sworn public safety personnel. PRIORITY IN SELECTION WILL BE GIVEN TO AGENCIES IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES: Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Douglas.

Overview:  This class is designed to lay the foundation for developing law enforcement handgun instructors. Participants will be exposed to evidence based methods of adult learning contributing to long term retention of motor skills.  Techniques for diagnosing shooting performance issues will also be explored.

Frequent teaching, coaching & feedback provision will be required throughout the class; attendees will also have the opportunity to produce lesson plans and run live fire training.

All successful participants will be eligible (but not required) to complete an additional forty (40) hours of instruction with recruits for further diagnostic & coaching experience.  This opportunity will occur in conjunction with regularly scheduled academy firearms training at DPSST once the course is complete.

When:  April 25 – 29, 2022            08:00 – 17:00 Daily

Pre-requisites:  Participants must be able to pass the basic police recruit handgun qualification on day one to continue in the class. Those unable to do so will be asked to enroll in an IDC offered at a later date. There will be a single opportunity to complete the qualification first thing on day one. You must score 80 or higher.

Attire:  Comfortable range clothing suited for work outdoors in the prevailing weather conditions.

Supplies/Equipment Needed:  A reliable duty handgun chambered in either 9mm, .40cal, 45acp or .357 sig.  Pistol mounted optics are acceptable, but will not be the primary focus of this class. All ammunition is provided by DPSST.

A duty type holster, belt, magazine carriers and a minimum of 3 magazines, ballistic vest, brimmed hat, eye protection, hearing protection, flashlight(s).  Knee & elbow pads are optional, knee pads are recommended.  Pen and note taking material. Sunscreen, bug spray and snacks and drinks. No meals are provided.

Deadline to Register:  All training applications must be received by April 11, 2022. Apply now if you are interested. Registration may close early if a significant number of applications are received.  If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail from DPSST do not plan on attending.

***Class size is limited. Agencies will be limited to one application per agency to start***
