Basic Police Class #397: We’re happy to report that the 38 police recruits enrolled in BP397 are mid-way through the second week of their return to training (week 13 of 16 of the BP course overall). The delivery of this training (with the implementation of additional safety protocols being adjusted as needed) continues to run smoothly.
The flexibility, diligence and patience of all involved in ensuring the successful delivery of this course remains appreciated.
Tentative Training Schedule through August 24th: As promised we are providing tentative return/start dates for a number of additional Basic and Leadership classes. We are providing these dates in an effort to reaffirm our commitment to our mission of providing training, and to allow your officers and agencies an opportunity to plan for the future. Still, a lot remains up in the air. As such, ALL OF THESE DATES REMAIN SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME AND FOR ANY REASON.

DPSST’s Criminal Justice Certification unit will begin making notifications reflecting these start dates within the next week. Requests for adjustments will be addressed following those notifications.
The Coordinator assigned to each class will begin making specific preparations, including logistical arrangements, safety considerations, etc. We will do our best to ensure the communication of our planning remains transparent and up-to-date.
Scheduling of DPSST Venues: As reported last week, the finalization of the mandated course schedule, and the departure of the ECC will allow DPSST to begin evaluating requests from Oregon Public Safety Academy (OPSA) tenant agencies and other public safety partners who wish to use DPSST training venues. A procedure for requesting venue use, as well as an internal process for reviewing each request is being developed and will be shared when available.
Maintenance Training Reports: Maintenance training reports will be sent out in the coming days. These reports are being provided for information only. DPSST will not suspend any public safety certification for a failure to obtain or report hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with the Temporary Administrative Rule adopted on March 31st.
The Temporary Rule language is available here: https://www.oregon.gov/dpsst/docs/COVIDTempRule.pdf
