Basic Police Class #397: The 38 students enrolled in BP397 returned to the Academy on Monday (5/11) to finish the remaining four weeks of their Basic Police training. So far, so good. While the established and approved safety plan has been implemented in its entirety, staff and students are willingly making on-the-fly adjustments as needed to ensure everyone remains as safe as possible.
The finalized safety plan and schedule for BP397 can be found here: https://www.oregon.gov/dpsst/docs/FINAL%20BP397%20Health%20and%20Safety%20Protocols%20a.pdf
The flexibility, diligence and patience of all involved in ensuring the successful delivery of this course is appreciated.
Return of Basic Police Class #398 and Beyond: The decision has been made to move forward with the return of BP Class #398 on Monday, June 8th (the Monday following the graduation of BP397). BP398 had completed 8 of the 16 weeks of the Basic Police Course when the academy closed in March. The safety plan and schedule for this training is being developed and will be shared when complete.
We hope to release the full schedule for the return dates for the remaining classes that were mid-session, and the start dates for upcoming classes next week.
NOTE: Student registrations and class assignments are again visible in DPSST’s IRIS system to assist with planning. Classes will show a start date of 12/31/1901 until an actual start date is available.
Emergency Coordination Center (ECC): The Office of Emergency Management’s ECC operations remain on the Oregon Public Safety Academy campus but are beginning to wind down. We expect all OPSA-campus ECC operations to be concluded by the end of May.
Scheduling of DPSST Venues: The finalization of the mandated course schedule, and the departure of the ECC will allow DPSST to begin evaluating requests from Oregon Public Safety Academy (OPSA) tenant agencies and other public safety partners who wish to use DPSST training venues. A procedure for requesting venue use, as well as an internal process for reviewing each request is being developed and will be shared when available.
Maintenance Training Reports: Maintenance training reports will be sent out to all agencies in the coming days. These reports are being provided for information only. DPSST will not suspend any public safety certification for a failure to obtain or report hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with the Temporary Administrative Rule adopted on March 31st.
The Temporary Rule language is available here: https://www.oregon.gov/dpsst/docs/COVIDTempRule.pdf
New Training/Certification Time Extension Request Form (F-12): This form has been created to streamline requests for time extensions for DPSST training and certification by eliminating the need notarized affidavits.
The F12 Criminal Justice Extension Request form can be found on the DPSST Criminal Justice forms page: https://www.oregon.gov/dpsst/cj/Pages/CJForms.aspx
