North Phoenix Road closed for weekend

PHOENIX — Nighttime road construction begins Friday, March 20, and is scheduled to continue all weekend on three critical roadways within the Fern Valley Interchange project area. All business accesses will remain open during this construction phase and, by Monday, March 23, all road connections should be opened.

Local traffic should be alert for the full closure of North Phoenix Road, north of The Home Depot. All travelers from southeast Medford to Phoenix will be required to use alternate routes. During this construction phase, prime contractor Hamilton Construction of Springfield will:

*   Close a section of North Phoenix Road, located north of the project area near Arrowhead Ranch, from 10 p.m. Friday, March 20 until Monday morning, March 23.

*   Work on Fern Valley Road-North Phoenix Road via the new Grove Road connection and turn on a new traffic signal behind The Home Depot.

*   Open a new temporary northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp using Grove Road.

The temporary connection to I-5 is expected to be in operation through late this year when the new interstate bridge opens, along with the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp.

Project Background

The $72 million Fern Valley Interchange project began in spring 2014. Due to its size and complexity — encompassing east and west Phoenix roadways, I-5 and Oregon 99 — the project requires more than two full construction seasons for completion. More information is online at the project website: http://www.oregon.gov/odot/hwy/region3/pages/fvi_index.aspx.
