Open house looks at start of OR 99W project
An open house Tuesday Feb. 24 in Tigard will give the public a chance to learn more about a series of improvements getting under way soon at the OR 99W intersection with Gaarde and McDonald streets.
The open house is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. at the Grace Point Community Church Ministry Center, 11075 S.W. Gaarde St. in Tigard. The public may learn about the plans, meet with staff and ask questions.
The project, which is aimed at smoothing the traffic flow and improving safety, has been a collaborative effort among ODOT, the city of Tigard and Washington County.
Work is expected to get under way in March and continue through 2015. Travelers should expect increased congestion and delays in the area during the work.
Construction will take place during the day and at night, with most work Sunday through Thursday nights. Occasional night lane closures will take place on OR 99W but daytime work will take place off the highway.
Traffic improvements include:
- A new southbound through lane and dedicated right turn lane for OR 99W at Bull Mountain Road.
- On OR 99W, an additional left turn lane at Gaarde Street and a right turn only lane at McDonald Street.
- A second through lane for both eastbound and westbound traffic on OR 99W.
Other improvements include median planters, retaining walls, new traffic signals, sidewalks, bike lanes, light poles and storm water system upgrades.
The project web site will have updated information with weekly construction posted every Friday at www.oregon.gov/odot/hwy/region1/pages/GaardeMcDonald.aspx
