Whiskey Creek Road now open to traffic
WALLOWA, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Transportation’s contractor JAL Construction has opened the short section of Whiskey Creek Road that has been closed for culvert replacement work since September 8. Travelers may experience occasional delays at the work site located 5.5 miles east of Wallowa and should plan extra travel time along this route. Additional construction activities will continue through the end of September, but no further road closures are anticipated.
The two-week road closure was needed to accommodate the replacement of the existing culvert that was in poor condition and restricted the passage of migratory fish. The $350,000 project included removing the old culvert and replacing it with a new single span bridge.
“We really appreciate everyone’s patience during this project,” said ODOT Assistant Project Manager Mike Remily.
