Free rides highlight Rogue Valley Commuter Line celebration

GRANTS PASS — Free rides on the Rogue Valley Commuter Line are available the week of Monday, Sept. 22 to highlight the new transit service from Grants Pass to Medford.

A formal celebration at the Grants Pass City Council Chambers is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 23. The event will open with refreshments at 10:15 a.m., followed by remarks from Grants Pass Mayor Darin Fowler. The service will depart at 11:05 a.m. for the RVTD Transfer Station in downtown Medford. Refreshments will be provided before the service returns to Grants Pass.

The Rogue Valley Commuter Line began on Sept. 2, providing five trips per day between Grants Pass and Medford with stops in Rogue River and Gold Hill. The first service leaves Grants Pass at 6:35 a.m. and arrives at the RVTD Front Street Station at 7:35 a.m. There are two morning runs, a mid-day run, and two afternoon runs.

“For just $2, you can travel between the two communities,” said Josephine Community Transit (JCT) Program Supervisor Scott Chancey. “You can then get on either RVTD or Josephine Community Transit to your final destination.”

In coordination with the RVCL celebration, all rides on JCT will be free on Tuesday. Sept. 23.

The RVCL is a three-year demonstration project funded by the Middle Rogue Metropolitan Planning Organization using federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds.
