Bypass work to increase with bridge construction near Dundee

Contractor to begin construction on west end of Bypass

DUNDEE – Newberg-Dundee Bypass Phase 1 construction is expected to increase over the next few days as the new contractor working for the Oregon Department of Transportation begins work on the west end of the Bypass around Dundee. Overall construction activity will be increasing and more noticeable around OR 99W and in some Dundee neighborhoods.

Hamilton Construction of Springfield will be building the west end of the Bypass from Dundee to around Chehalem Creek. The contract includes the building of six new bridges, including the “fish hook” connection with OR 99W just west of Dundee.

Neighbors at the southern and western ends of Dundee will be hearing increased noise from the “pile driving” or pounding of the bridge foundation supports deep in to the soil. This work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday during the day.  While the noise can be loud, it will not be continuous.

Homeowners in Dundee near the construction area, and on OR 99W, will also see a significant increase in truck traffic as trucks enter and exit the Bypass construction site during major excavation work and dirt removal.

ODOT appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and motorists. For more information about the Bypass and construction activities, please visit www.newbergdundee.org .
