Bridge work planned at
Nehalem River Bridge on U.S. 26
TIMBER – An Oregon Department of Transportation bridge crew will be doing critical bridge repairs to the Nehalem River Bridge on U.S. 26 just west of Timber at milepost 38. The work will begin on Monday, August 4 and continue until completion probably by the end of August.
The crew will be repairing scour damage to the bridge’s footings by using large rocks to rip rap the west bank along the river and the four columns under the bridge.
To do the work, the crew will need to close one of the two westbound lanes during weekdays but limiting Friday work to just mornings. The location of the bridge has two lanes each for west and east bound traffic. There should only be minor delays.
However, ODOT is currently performing other bridge work at two bridges further west on U.S 26 at West Humbug Creek (milepost 16) and the Necanicum River (milepost 4.5). While there is no highway construction and lane closures after noon on Fridays, motorists on U.S. 26 have been experiencing delays during weekdays because of the heavy summer coastal traffic combined with the construction projects.
Motorists should expect delays, leave additional travel time or consider alternative routes such at U.S. 30 and OR 6 depending on your final destination.
