Commercial drive tests to end at 3 DMV offices

Private testing companies take on skills test role for commercial driver licenses

DMV will no longer provide drive tests for commercial driver licenses at three offices as of January 2014.
DMV is no longer scheduling drive test appointments for commercial driver licenses for dates after Dec. 31, 2013, at its offices in Albany, Hermiston and Ontario. Private third-party testers are available in the Willamette Valley and Eastern Oregon, as well as other parts of the state.
You can find a list of private drive testers in the commercial driver licensing section at OregonDMV.com (http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/pages/driverid/3rdpartytest.aspx) or by calling your local DMV phone number or 503-945-5000.
Generally, you must have a commercial driver license to operate a motor vehicle on highways or premises open to the public in Oregon if the gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight rating is greater than 26,000 pounds, the vehicle is used to transport 16 or more passengers including the driver, or the vehicle is used to transport hazardous materials.
For all customers, DMV suggests that you first check OregonDMV.com before visiting any field office in person, especially in winter weather conditions. Customers can complete some DMV business online or find out how to make their visit as efficient as possible.
