Paving to restrict travel on Mohawk Blvd. in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD— A project to grind and inlay pavement on the Mohawk Blvd. bridge over OR 126 (Officer Chris Kilcullen Memorial Hwy.) in Springfield, will restrict nighttime travel at the interchange.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 and continuing until 8 a.m. Saturday, June 22, a contractor for ODOT will grind and remove the old asphalt on the bridge and the approaches to the bridge, and inlay two inches of new asphalt.

During construction, travel on Mohawk Blvd. will still be allowed, but will be restricted to fewer lanes. Motorists should experience only minor delays due to the lighter traffic volumes during the overnight period.

The on-and off-ramps of the interchange will be subject to intermittent, short-term closures during the paving operation. During those closures, motorists will be directed to take an alternate route using either the Pioneer Parkway (City Center) or 42nd Street interchanges.

While this project is not part of a larger paving project on OR 126, it is the result of a coordinated effort to accomplish much needed surface improvements on the bridge, in tandem with the larger project under similar construction.
