Paving project begins on OR 126 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD— A major paving project to resurface OR 126 (Chris Kilcullen Memorial Hwy.) will begin soon, creating lane closures, ramp closures and a weekend closure of one interchange in Springfield.

The project will include 6.17 miles of the highway from just east of Interstate 5 to East Main Street.

The OR 126: Springfield Paving and Cable Median Barrier project will preserve the existing highway by grinding and replacing two inches of asphalt in most areas and reconstructing the eastbound portions of the 42nd Street interchange. The project will also improve safety by constructing cable median barrier between Mohawk Blvd. and East Main Street (MP 6.24-9.97).

Construction will begin this month and continue until late September. Much of the work will be completed at night to avoid peak travel times. During construction, motorists can expect single lane closures in both directions; ramp closures; and a weekend closure of the 42nd Street interchange.

During construction, motorists should monitor temporary traffic signs and traffic control devices and be alert to lane and ramp closures.

Businesses and residents near the highway should anticipate nighttime sounds consistent with road construction.
