Grants Pass becomes the state’s first DMV office with an in-office Express Kiosk

GRANTS PASS – Most people want to avoid waiting at a DMV. Oregon DMV Express Kiosks offer an option for customers to quickly renew or replace their vehicle registration without the long line. Until now, kiosks have only been in select Fred Meyer stores, but today, the Grants Pass DMV at 162 NE Beacon Drive became the state’s first to offer an in-office Express Kiosk.
Oregon DMV Express Kiosks are a fast and easy way to:
- Renew a vehicle registration
- Print a copy of a vehicle registration
- Replace a vehicle registration card and stickers
Customers can bypass the lobby line, renew their vehicle registration in English or Spanish, and walk away with their printed vehicle registration and license plate stickers. Kiosks do not require an appointment, and most transactions take five minutes or less to complete. The stickers include the vehicle’s license plate number, a feature only available at kiosks, to prevent theft and fraud.
Upcoming transaction options will include driver reinstatement fees and miscellaneous vehicle fees. A customer service survey will also be added at the end of the transaction, giving kiosk users an opportunity to provide feedback about their experience.

The Grants Pass DMV kiosk will be available during regular office hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. In addition to the renewal fee, a vendor transaction fee of $4.95 is charged for each transaction; Oregon DMV does not collect or benefit from the transaction fee. The kiosk accepts credit, debit or contactless payment such as Apple, Google or Samsung Pay (five of the state’s 10 kiosks also accept cash, although the Grants Pass machine does not). DMV Express Kiosks are safe, secure and do not retain customer information.
“Having an Express Kiosk inside the Grants Pass office gives our community another convenient way to do business with DMV” said DMV South Region Manager Jonah Kopp. “For eligible transactions, customers can simply walk in, use the kiosk and be on their way with no appointment and no waiting for a counter.”
The Grants Pass DMV is an appointment-based office offering more than 800 appointments online at DMV2U. The office also offers a limited number of same-day appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers receive a specific time to return to the office later that day, providing greater convenience and eliminating the need to spend hours waiting in the office. For customers who prefer to wait for an opening, standby tickets are also available.

DMV Express Kiosk history
Oregon DMV is always looking at ways to improve our services, including offering more self-service options. DMV launched Express Kiosks in December 2024 in Fred Meyer stores in 10 cities: Beaverton, Bend, Eugene, Happy Valley, Hillsboro, Medford, Oak Grove, Portland, Salem and Tualatin. Having the kiosk inside Fred Meyer stores provides customers with convenient access to DMV kiosks days, nights and weekends in trusted locations across the state.
Since the launch of DMV Express Kiosks, the Oak Grove kiosk has seen the lowest usage among the 10 locations, prompting DMV to explore relocating it to an in-office setting where it could better serve customers.
“Several offices volunteered to participate in the pilot,” explained DMV Field Services Group Manager Dave McKay. “We did an analysis to determine where the kiosk could have the greatest impact for residents and the strongest potential for usage, considering factors such as customer needs and wait times. Based on this assessment, Grants Pass was selected as the pilot location.”
