Does your company use preclearance services to bypass Oregon weigh stations? Whether your drivers use a transponder or a mobile application on a phone or tablet, these services help improve efficiency by saving time and fuel.
However, if a transponder or mobile application is associated with the wrong power unit, it can result in roadside citations, unnecessary audits and assessments for unreported Oregon weight-mile tax.
Oregon receives preclearance bypass records from participating service providers to help verify reported travel. If a transponder is moved from one truck to another without updating its assignment, or if a driver uses a mobile application with the wrong power unit selected, inaccurate bypass records may be created. These false records can appear to show travel by a truck that was not actually in Oregon.
To help prevent incorrect bypass records:
- Ensure your preclearance transponder or mobile application is properly registered with the service provider and contains the correct license plate, Vehicle Identification Number, unit number and USDOT number.
- Update transponder assignments on Trucking Online under the Green Light Transponder menu whenever a transponder is moved between power units.
- If using a mobile application, verify the correct power unit is selected before each trip.
- Regularly review Safety > Query OSCAR on Trucking Online to identify and correct discrepancies before they become compliance issues.
A few minutes spent verifying your preclearance information can help prevent inaccurate Oregon mileage records, reduce the risk of citations and audits, and avoid unnecessary tax assessments.
