We're making curb ramps in the Willamette Valley and the North Coast accessible for all users, whether you drive, ride, walk or roll.

When crews are working on curb ramps, they often need to temporarily close the crosswalk. They're closed for safety and accessibility reasons.

These work zones are dangerous for the public. They could have uneven pavement, loose debris, fall hazards, open ditches, construction equipment, exposed utilities and more. 

Pedestrians are directed to the nearest safe alternate crossing by using pedestrian detour signs.

The pedestrian detour route depends on the location and what crossing options are available nearby. Sometimes the safest detour is long or far from the closed crosswalk. It may include crossing a multi-lane highway. 

When crews have finished work at the closed curb ramps, the crosswalk is reopened and the temporary pedestrian detour is no longer needed.

Safety reminder

While you may not always see people working in a coned-off area, it is still an active work zone.

Cones close off an area that is unsafe for pedestrians and vehicles to move through. The area will remain closed until crews are able to return, repair and reopen.

Please do not move cones or park in coned-off areas.
