Updating bridge rail on the Tower Road interchange bridge. June 29, 2026.
Aug. 6, 2026
BOARDMAN – Travelers on Interstate 84 near Exit 159 west of Boardman should expect intermittent single-lane closures the week of Aug. 3 and into the week of Aug. 10 as crews finish work on the Tower Road interchange bridge.
One lane on the Tower Road bridge will close while crews complete final repairs. Single‑lane closures on I‑84 will also be in place while crews remove the containment system. The containment system was installed to safely capture debris during construction.
Travelers should expect brief delays.
About this project
This project addressed wear and aging on the Tower Road Bridge over I-84. Crews repaired and upgraded key bridge features to extend the bridge’s lifespan, improve safety for travelers, and delay the need for full replacement.
Work included:
- Repairing the bridge deck.
- Installing new approach slabs. Approach slabs help create a smooth transition between the road and the bridge.
- Updating the bridge rail and protective fencing.
- Repairing wing walls and guardrail. Wing walls are small walls next to bridges that hold back soil and support the road. They help keep the road stable and prevent erosion around the bridge ends.
- Paving the Tower Road bridge and the bridge approaches, the short road sections that connect the highway to the bridge.
These improvements will help keep the bridge safe and reliable for years to come.
