Southwest Oregon Construction Report for the week of August 2-8, 2026
The following report includes ODOT highways that are impacted by construction in Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Curry and Douglas counties. Projects are listed in the following order: highway, location, project name. Project construction costs (bid amount) are provided when the information is available.
Pedestrian routes: Where traffic is routed through or around a work zone, pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work zone.

MULTIPLE COUNTIES
VARIOUS HIGHWAYS (U.S. 101, Oregon 42, Oregon 62, Oregon 140, Oregon 238), Southwest Oregon rural intersection safety improvements ($751,454), webpage
This project will improve safety along rural state highways in southwest Oregon by installing advance warning signs at 63 high-speed intersections along five state highways. Flashing beacons will be installed or replaced at five intersections along U.S. 101. Construction is scheduled for completion in August.
During construction, watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures with flaggers in these areas:
- U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 227-361 (Coos, Curry counties)
- Oregon 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 9-70 (Coos, Douglas)
- Oregon 62 (Crater Lake Highway), MP 8-44 (Jackson)

- Oregon 238 (Jacksonville Highway), MP 3-31 (Josephine, Jackson)
COOS COUNTY
OREGON 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 0.0 - 9.7, U.S. 101 to Cedar Point Road paving, culvert and bridge repairs ($11.77 million), website
This project will pave nearly seven miles of Oregon 42, repair seven bridges and repair or replace 25 culverts between the U.S. 101 junction and Coquille. The project will also install a continuous center turn lane between Green Acres Lane and Fernwood Road (MP 3.3-7.3) and add centerline rumble strips between Fernwood Road and Cedar Point Road (MP 7.3-9.7). All work is scheduled for completion this fall.
Watch for intermittent lane closures throughout the work zone as the contractor replaces guardrail. Watch for traffic control devices and expect congestion and delays at peak travel times.
OREGON 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 20.8 to 21.9 (Myrtle Point), ADA curb ramp replacement project ($2,310,000), website
This project will improve pedestrian facilities by building ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at approximately 31 intersections in Brookings, Gold Beach, Myrtle Point and Roseburg.
The project area in Myrtle Point involves six intersections along Oregon 42, from Bothwick Street to Carlisle Lane (MP 20.8-21.9). Most work has been completed. Watch for workers and construction vehicles as the contractor cleans up the project area.
OREGON 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 35-42, Utility relocates
Coos Curry Electric will relocate their powerlines underground. Starting August 2, watch for intermittent lane closures from milepost 35-42. Flaggers will provide traffic control. Expect delays up to 20 minutes. All work is scheduled for completion by December.
OREGON 241 (Coos River Highway), MP 3.5-3.8, Chandler (Coos River) Bridge painting and repairs ($7.29 million), website
This project will paint the steel truss section of the bridge, replace the lift-span tower ladders and access platforms, and upgrade the steel guardrail at each end of the bridge. Construction will require lane closures across the bridge and two weekend closures of the highway, to be announced when schedules are available. All work is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 18.
Highway traffic across the bridge is limited to a single lane 24/7 until September. Watch for concrete rail along the centerline of the bridge. A temporary signal will provide traffic control. Most delays will be less than 5-10 minutes.
CURRY COUNTY
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 312, Arizona Landslide repair ($18.3 million)
This project will help reduce ground movement at the Arizona Landslide Complex, located 12 miles south of Port Orford, by building a deep shaft that will act as a giant catch basin for the new drainage system. Construction is scheduled for completion in January 2027.
Most work will take place on the west side of the highway. Drivers should watch for construction workers, equipment and vehicles along the shoulder.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 327.4-329.5 (Gold Beach) and MP 354.8-359.3 (Brookings), ADA curb ramp replacement project ($2,310,000) website
This project will improve pedestrian facilities by building ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at approximately 31 intersections in Brookings, Gold Beach, Myrtle Point and Roseburg.
The work zone involves eight intersections in Gold Beach (U.S. 101 from Wedderburn Loop Road to Kerber Drive, MP 327.4-329.5) and 12 in Brookings (U.S. 101 from Dawson Road/OR 255 to Benham Lane, MP 354.8-359.3).
Most work has been completed. Watch for workers and construction vehicles as contractors clean up the project area.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 332.5, 80 Acres Landslide repair project ($3,897,777)
This project will build a buttress and adjust a culvert in a landslide area a few miles south of Gold Beach. The project is scheduled for completion by Sept. 30.
U.S. 101 is limited to a single lane of traffic through the work zone. Flaggers will provide 24-hour traffic control. Expect delays for alternating one-way traffic.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 342.5, Burnt Hill drainage repair project
This project will repair the drainage and reconstruct the ditch along U.S. 101 about 1,000 feet south of Burnt Hill Beach Road.
Watch for intermittent lane closures with flaggers through the work zone. Most delays will be brief. All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
U.S. 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 356.9-357.1 (Brookings), Kalmiopsis Elementary School to Fern Avenue Sidewalks ($1,796,140)
This Safe Routes to School project will provide safe walking facilities for children attending Kalmiopsis Elementary School in Brookings. The project will use a creative street design technique, install sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, marked crosswalks, and a rapid flashing beacon crossing at 5th Street. All work is scheduled for completion by Sept. 26.
Watch for weekday lane and shoulder closures along U.S. 101. When sidewalks are closed for construction, alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.
DOUGLAS COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 124.5 (Roseburg), Vets Bridge Multiuse Path Repair Project ($220,000)
This project will make repairs to the multiuse path underneath the Vets Bridge in Roseburg near Gaddis Park.
Watch for weekday closures that will limit the available width of the multiuse path to about half its normal width. Watch for construction equipment in the immediate work area. Watch for signs, orange cones and other pedestrian control devices.
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 128.9 (Winchester), North Umpqua River and CORP Northbound and Southbound Bridges ($5,184,949), website
This project will repair both I-5 bridges in the Winchester area, resurface the travel lanes, reconstruct joints, upgrade bridge rails and add protective screening.
Watch for intermittent weeknight (6 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday night to Friday morning) lane closures in the southbound direction through the work zone.
OREGON 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 72-77 (Winston and Green District), Lookingglass Creek to I-5 paving and safety improvements ($11.97 million), website
This project will resurface a five-mile section of Oregon 42 between Winston and Interstate 5, install a new traffic signal at Rolling Hills Road, add safety features to help reduce crashes through the Green District, and upgrade sidewalk curb ramps to better accommodate wheelchair users and other pedestrians. The project is scheduled for completion in September.
For the week of August 2-7, watch for miscellaneous work along the highway between Grant Smith Road and the Exit 119 northbound ramps. This may require day and night lane closures on Oregon 42. Construction is usually scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday night to Friday morning. Watch for roadside message boards.
Starting Sunday night, August 2, the right westbound lane of Oregon 42 will be closed day and night between Landers Avenue and Heatherwood Lane through the end of the week. Watch for traffic control devices.
Starting the week of August 9, a “zipper merge” will be introduced to eastbound Oregon 42 as traffic approaches the bridge over I-5 and the northbound ramps. Oregon 42 drivers heading to Roseburg and northbound I-5 are asked to use both eastbound travel lanes through the Green District, then take turns merging when the highway narrows to one lane. Please drive with caution and be patient with other drivers as they learn the new merging process. Watch for new signs, striping and pavement markings that encourage drivers to take turns merging.
The contractor will also be working on Oregon 42 between Rolling Hills Road and Lookingglass Road. Work will take place at night, but lanes may be closed 24 hours.
At Exit 119, watch for intermittent nighttime closures of the northbound on- and off-ramps through the middle of August.
Miscellaneous construction may take place in other areas. Watch for roadside message boards, construction signs and workers.
Nearby residents should expect nighttime construction noise throughout the work zone.
OREGON 138E (North Umpqua Highway), MP 0.5-1.4 (Roseburg), ADA curb ramp replacement project ($2,310,000) website
This project will improve pedestrian facilities by building ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at approximately 149 locations in Brookings, Gold Beach, Myrtle Point and Roseburg.
The Roseburg work zone is located along Oregon 138E (North Umpqua Highway / Diamond Lake Blvd.) between Fulton Street and Miguel Street. Most work has been completed, pending final review. Watch for workers and construction vehicles as final work items are completed.
OREGON 138E (North Umpqua Highway), MP 29-31, Paris Reservoir Landslide repair project ($6,989,262)
This project will install horizontal drains along the eastbound shoulder of Oregon 138E. Construction will continue until summer 2027.
Highway traffic through the project area will be limited to a single lane, 14-feet in width, for several months. Wide loads cannot be accommodated. A portable signal will provide 24/7 traffic control. Drivers should expect congestion and delays at peak travel times.
JACKSON COUNTY
OREGON 62 (Crater Lake Highway), MP 21.5-22.5, Maintenance paving
On Monday and Tuesday, August 3-4, watch for intermittent lane closures with flaggers as workers pave Oregon 62 between milepost 21.5 and 22.5.
OREGON 62 (Crater Lake Highway), MP 35.2 to 35.5, Lost Creek Lake Bridge project ($6.1 million) website
This project will repair and upgrade the bridge deck, guardrails, bridge surface, and joints as well as pavement and striping.
During construction, the highway will be limited to a single lane through the work zone. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers, an automated flagging system or a temporary traffic signal. Expect minor delays (less than 20 minutes) and reduced speed through the work zone.
OREGON 66 (Green Springs Highway), MP 12-28, Maintenance paving
From Monday to Thursday, August 17-20, watch for intermittent lane closures with flaggers as workers pave Oregon 62 between milepost 12 and milepost 28.
OREGON 234 (Sams Valley Highway), MP 15.1, Pavement repair project, website
This project will repair cracked and sinking pavement caused by ground settling.
Oregon 234 is closed between Modoc Road and Dodge Road. A detour is available using Dodge Road and Antioch Road. Travelers will also be able to take Antioch Road or Modoc Road south to Table Rock Road to connect to Oregon 140 and Oregon 62 in White City. All work is scheduled to be completed by August 21. OREGON 238 (Jacksonville Highway), MP 15.1, Pavement repair project, website
This project will replace a culvert on Oregon 238 (Rossanley Drive) west of Medford.
From Monday, August 3, until the end of the week, Oregon 238 (Rossanley Drive) will be closed between Ross Lane and Hanley Road. Local traffic will be allowed to Rogue X and residences east of the closure. All other vehicles can detour along North Ross Lane and West Main Street. Construction is weather-dependent and subject to change.
VARIOUS HIGHWAYS, Jackson County Curb Ramps, Phase 2 ($11.9 million), website
This project will bring 113 pedestrian curb ramps located in Jackson County into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ramps are mostly located along state highways in Central Point, White City, Medford, Talent and Ashland. See project website for specific locations. All work is scheduled for completion this fall.
Most work has been completed and no more traffic impacts are expected. Watch for workers along the roadside as the contractor finishes final work items and cleans up the project area.
JOSEPHINE COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 58.1-66.7, Monument Drive to north Grants Pass ($25 million), website
This project area, located north of Grants Pass, involves 10 miles of I-5 and ramps at four interchanges. The project will repair pavement along the I-5 travel lanes and ramps, replace bridge joints, remove roadside hazards and install guardrail. Construction is scheduled for completion this fall.
Watch for intermittent I-5 lane closures through the work zone. Watch for construction signs and traffic control devices. Flaggers will provide traffic control on the ramps as needed.
Nighttime (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) ramp closures are scheduled for the following locations:
- Through August 4, I-5 southbound Exit 58 (Grants Pass) off-ramp.
- Through August 21, I-5 northbound Exit 61 (Merlin) off-ramp.
- Through August 21, I-5 southbound Exit 61 (Merlin) on- and off-ramp.
- Through August 21, I-5 northbound Exit 66 (Monument Drive) off-ramp.
- Through August 21, I-5 southbound Exit 66 (Monument Drive) on- and off-ramp.
VARIOUS HIGHWAYS, Jackson and Josephine County Curb Ramps Phase 3 ($25 million), website
This project will install, repair or improve 373 pedestrian curb ramps located in Jackson and Josephine County to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ramps are mostly located along state highways in Ashland, Phoenix, Medford, Central Point and Grants Pass.
Watch for construction in downtown Grants Pass. Work has begun on Oregon 99 from H Street through E Street off Redwood Highway. Construction will require intermittent lane and shoulder closures. When sidewalks are closed, pedestrians will be provided alternate routes.
