Expect delays, loose rock and pilot car escorts between Alsea and Philomath

Corvallis — Travelers should expect daytime lane closures and delays on OR 34 between Alsea and Philomath starting Sunday, July 26. Crews will be applying a chip seal to help preserve the road and extend its life.
Work schedule:

Chip seal: Monday through Thursday, July 27– Aug. 4, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Nightly sweeping: July 26– Aug. 4, from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Fog seal: Monday, Aug. 3, starting around 8 a.m. (about six hours)

Striping: Expected around Aug.17; temporary reflective markers will be used until then.
This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.
Drivers should slow down and use caution in the work zone. Loose gravel will remain on the road until the fog seal is complete. “Loose gravel” and “do not pass” signs will stay up during that time.

“Wait for pilot car” signs at smaller driveways and side roads—please do not enter the highway until a pilot car arrives.
Bicycle riders should be prepared for traveling on rock chip covered highway sections behind a pilot car.
Motorists should expect some loose gravel on the roadway for several days after this operation and are advised to slow down and allow extra space between vehicles.
Chip seal applications help protect and extend the life of the existing roadway and provide a smooth ride.
