Fog seal planned for next week on Newmark Avenue in North Bend

July 10, 2026

NORTH BEND – Drivers should watch for lane closures, traffic congestion and delays on Newmark Avenue (Cape Arago Highway) next week, July 13-17, as workers apply a fog seal to the half-mile area between Broadway Avenue and Fir Street.

Construction will also require daytime closure of several side roads, driveways and business accesses along Newmark Avenue on different days of the week.

Fog seals are a relatively low-cost treatment that coats the road surface with a thin layer of liquid asphalt, helping to protect the existing pavement from cracks and erosion.

On Monday and Tuesday, workers will remove striping from the road surface in this area. Drivers should watch for daytime lane and shoulder closures. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.

The fog seal will be applied to the right westbound lane on Wednesday, the center lanes on Thursday, and the right eastbound lane on Friday. Lane closures will extend from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When the right lanes in the eastbound and westbound direction are closed for construction, all adjacent side roads, business accesses and driveways will also be closed. Drivers are encouraged to detour onto local roads.

New striping is scheduled to be applied to the work zone the last week of July.

The fog seal is part of the Oregon 540: Broadway Ave. to Fir Street Pedestrian Improvements Project, which built two pedestrian crossings and added several new ADA sidewalk curb ramps. Most work on the $817,041 project was completed earlier this year.
