Two major interstate closures in Portland this weekend

Concrete pouring June 27, 2026, on northbound Abernethy Bridge on Interstate 205.

Crews work on a section on the Abernethy Bridge over the Willamette River on northbound Interstate 205 on June 27. The next of several overnight single-direction closures for concrete pouring will be the night of July 10.

Two separate construction projects will affect travel through Portland on Friday and Saturday nights

July 6, 2026

PORTLAND – Travelers should plan ahead for two major overnight freeway closures in the Portland area this weekend.

Northbound Interstate 205 will be closed overnight on Friday July 10 at the Abernethy Bridge, and both directions of Interstate 5 will be closed overnight on Saturday July 11 through the Rose Quarter.

Only one interstate will be closed each night. The closures will not overlap. Expect delays, allow extra travel time, and follow signed detours.

Northbound I-205 closure night of July 10

Northbound I-205 will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday to Saturday morning for concrete pouring on the Abernethy Bridge, which crosses the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn.

The on-ramp from OR 43 to northbound I-205 also will be closed.

Southbound I-205 will remain open.

Detours:

  • Northbound traffic will bypass I-205 in this section by using detours on I-5 and I-84.
  • Local traffic can use the Arch Bridge to cross the river.
  • Southbound I-205 lanes will remain open.

For more information about the project, visit the I-205 corridor and Abernethy Bridge Project page.
