We are restoring a section of historic rock wall lost in a landslide west of Vista House

June 4, 2026

Expect intermittent traffic flagging on the Historic Columbia River Highway between Larch Mountain Road and Vista House starting the week of June 8.

We are repairing the historic rock wall that was lost in a landslide in March after heavy rainfall. We expect work to start June 8 and take about six weeks, but construction schedules can vary.

The work will require a lane closure and flagging during the first two weeks of the project. Flagging generally will be done during the daytime, from about 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. After the first two weeks of work, we may need only occasional lane closures and flagging.

We do not expect to need to close the highway completely during the project.

Construction schedules can vary based on weather and other factors, so please visit Tripcheck.com for the latest information on road conditions before you travel in Oregon.

The landslide occurred March 11 during heavy rain, and crews were able to remove debris from the highway and reopen it to traffic March 17. We are returning to the site this month to restore the rock wall in the original style fitting the historic highway.

Crews prepare to reopen the Historic Columbia River Highway on March 17 after emergency repair to the travel lanes. A section of the historic rock wall was lost in the slide.
